Everything you need to know about CertMate.
CertMate is online compliance software for New Zealand electricians. It lets you create, sign, send and store your compliance certificates: COC, ESC, COV, ROI, Emergency Lighting PS3 and more, from your phone, tablet or computer.
CertMate supports Certificates of Compliance (COC), Electrical Safety Certificates (ESC), combined COC + ESC, Certificates of Verification (COV), Records of Inspection (ROI), and Emergency Lighting PS3 certificates with Emergency Lighting test records.
Our certificate templates are built to meet New Zealand requirements, created and used by registered NZ electricians in their own businesses every day.
Your certificates are stored securely against your account for as long as you have an active subscription, and you can retrieve or resend any of them at any time. No filing cabinets, no digging through folders.
If you cancel, you keep full access for the rest of the period you've already paid for (and can undo the cancellation any time before then). After that, your account switches to read-only: your certificates and records stay in place and remain viewable and downloadable, you just can't create new ones until you resubscribe. We don't intend to delete anyone's data, but we can't promise indefinite retention forever, for example if an account has been inactive for many years. That's a rare edge case, not our plan, but we'd rather be upfront about it than promise something we can't guarantee.
Yes. Alongside your electrical certificates, CertMate covers HVAC test sheets: an Installation Test Sheet for commissioning a new heat pump or air conditioning unit, and a Service Checklist for maintenance visits, with support for multiple units on the same job.
No. Admin and apprentice accounts attached to a certifying electrician are included in your subscription.
No setup fee and no contract. You pay month to month and can cancel anytime. An optional annual plan is also available - pay for 11 months and get a month free.
Monthly, with no contract and no setup fee - cancel anytime. An annual plan is also available: pay for 11 months and get one month free. All prices are in New Zealand dollars and exclude GST. Billing is handled securely through Stripe.
Yes. Every account starts with a 30-day free trial and you do not need a credit card to begin.
Only 24 founding spots remain. Subscribe now to lock in 20% off the standard CertMate rate for the life of your continuous subscription. Because it is a percentage, founding members always pay 20% less than the current standard rate. If we raise prices later, the founding discount stays in place and adjusts with it. There is no cap on the number of electricians on a founding subscription. The founding rate ends if you cancel your subscription.
Yes. Upload your logo, add your company details, and choose a custom brand colour to match your business. Every certificate is generated with your branding applied, giving your clients a professional, polished document that looks like it came from your own system, not off-the-shelf software.
CertMate AI is an optional add-on covering five features. Voice to description: speak your job description on site and the AI turns it into clean, professional text. Photo to test sheet: snap a photo of your handwritten test results and the AI fills in the digital test sheet for you, covering both standard electrical test sheets and Emergency Lighting PS3 test records. NZ Regs Helper: ask a regulation question in plain English and get pointed straight to the clause you need to check. Wiring Rules Quick Access: link your own free copy of AS/NZS 3000 and open it instantly from anywhere in the app. Company Insight Reports: AI-written summaries of your team's output and trends, so nobody has to dig through the numbers by hand. CertMate AI can be added to or removed from your plan at any time from your Payments page.
No. AS/NZS 3000 (the Wiring Rules) remains the copyright of Standards New Zealand and Standards Australia. CertMate does not sell, host, or provide the standard itself, and never receives, stores, or has access to a copy of it on our servers. Wiring Rules Quick Access simply lets you link your own personal copy, which you download for free from your EW Portal as a licensed electrical worker, so you can open it instantly from within CertMate. The file stays on your own device at all times.
No. This feature doesn't grant, verify, or substitute for your EWRB registration, and it doesn't create any licensing relationship between CertMate and Standards New Zealand or the EWRB. It's a convenience feature only, making a copy you're already personally entitled to as a licensed electrical worker easier to reach on the job. You still obtain that copy through the official EW Portal, under Standards New Zealand's own terms, exactly as you would without CertMate.
No, and it shouldn't be. Your free access to AS/NZS 3000 through the EW Portal is personal to you as an individually licensed electrical worker, not a company-wide licence. Each registered electrician on your team downloads and links their own copy under their own login, CertMate never lets one person's linked file be viewed or opened by anyone else's account.
The Inspector Directory lets you find and link your company to a registered inspection company. Once linked, your ROI certificates are automatically associated with that inspector and they can access the relevant records directly, with no back-and-forth sharing documents manually. One click connects both parties.
Yes. The Company Insights dashboard shows you exactly who is completing certificates and test sheets, how many each person has raised, which types your company generates most, and where work might be falling behind.
CertMate is designed for electricians at any volume, from sole traders to larger teams. If you issue even a handful of certificates a month, you save time on the paperwork, storage and retrieval that goes with them. There is no minimum on certificates. Try the 30-day free trial and see if it earns its keep before you commit.
No. CertMate is built to be straightforward, with no training required and no manual to read. Most users create their first certificate in their first session. If you get stuck, use the help chat built into the app for instant answers, or reach out through our Contact page and a real NZ-based team member will help you out.
Getting records out: Your CertMate certificates can always be downloaded as PDFs and you are never locked in. Resend or download any record at any time during your subscription. Owners and admins can also export every record in the account, certificates, test sheets and all, as a single ZIP with one click, whenever they want.
Bringing old records in: Upload your existing certificates as Archived Records directly in your account. We store them alongside your new CertMate records at no extra charge, so everything lives in one place and you never risk losing your old paperwork. Need a hand, or have a large batch to bring across? Email us at hello@certmate.co.nz.
The quickest way is the help chat built into the app. Once you are logged in, click the chat button in the bottom corner and ask anything about how CertMate works. You can also browse the How To Guides section in the app for step-by-step written guides on getting set up and using CertMate's features. For anything that needs a person, contact us through our Contact page and a real NZ-based team member will help you out.
